To strengthen orangutan conservation efforts, we held a series of focused group discussions (FGDs) with communication staff and program managers from member organizations. These sessions served as a collaborative space to share experiences, explore creative communication strategies, and spark fresh ideas to make conservation campaigns more impactful and engaging for the public.
The two-day workshop, held on November 23-24, 2022, brought together 35 participants who actively discussed the challenges and communication strategies in their organizations. Many of the participants used social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter to share information and rally public support for orangutan conservation.
The focus of these campaigns was environmental education, particularly aimed at students and younger generations, to build awareness and instill a sense of responsibility for conservation.
Through the workshop, participants gained valuable skills in designing more effective communication strategies and improving engagement with their audiences. They were equipped with knowledge to implement in their respective organizations once they returned to their regions.
The outcomes of this initiative included the creation of targeted campaign plans, the development of educational content, and methods to facilitate better dialogue between communities and conservation organizations. Moving forward, participants are expected to forge new partnerships and strengthen existing ones, boosting collaborative and impactful conservation efforts.
